The United States of America

The United States of America (USA) lies between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. The country is bordered by Canada to the north and Mexico to the south. It is one of the world’s most ethnically diverse and multi-cultural nations.

The U.S. is divided into 50 states. The smallest state is Rhode Island. The largest state by area is Alaska. The state of Alaska is in the northwest of the
continent. It has the longest coastline in the U.S. at 10,686 kilometers.

The tallest mountain in the world, when measured from the seafloor, is located in the U.S. The mountain is called Mauna Kea. It is located in Hawaii. The mountain is only 4,205 meters in
altitude above sea level. However, when measured from the seafloor it is over 10,000 meters high, making it taller than Mount Everest, which is the tallest mountain in the world!

Hawaii is an interesting place. It is the only American state that grows coffee. The wettest place in the world is Mountain Waialeale in Hawaii. The only
royal palace used by a monarch in the U.S. is also located in Honolulu, Hawaii!
